They say friends are the family you choose, and that a three-day weekend feels like a long weekend. This one will feel too short. Short? Short because you’ll want more. More routes. More workshops. More talks. More dinners. More dancing. More surprises. More biking. Welcome to your new family.
¿Where?
Jarandilla de la Vera
The surroundings
The region of La Vera is a small green paradise hidden in the heart of the province of Cáceres. Forget any dry or flat image you might have of Extremadura; here, especially in spring, the gorges run high with water, the vegetation is lush, and the landscape rolls up and down.

La Vera sits on the southern slopes of the Sierra de Gredos. The mountains’ protection against the north wind creates a unique microclimate, with explosive springs where melting snow flows down from the peaks and fills the gorges. Water is the true protagonist of this land.

Our base will be in Jarandilla de la Vera, a town of fewer than 3,000 people that holds all the natural and historical charm of the area. Emperor Charles V chose La Vera to spend his final days, and while his palace at the Yuste Monastery was being finished, he stayed at the Castle of the Counts of Oropesa, which is now the Parador of Jarandilla. In town, we’ll find everything we could need: supermarkets, pharmacies, and lively terraces.

From there, we’ll pedal among ancient chestnut and oak trees in the higher reaches, as well as cherry and olive groves in the valleys—always following paths lined with ferns and moss.
During that weekend in April, if we’re lucky, we’ll likely witness the cherry blossoms in full bloom—a truly priceless sight.

And when we’re done riding and head back to Jarandilla, we can take a dip in the Jaranda gorge to refresh our legs, before sitting down to enjoy some local cheese with pimentón, paired with fig jam, crusty bread, and a cold beer.

Useful information
About the routes:
- The routes are mostly off-road; we recommend gravel or mountain bikes.
- There will be guided and self-guided routes; we will share the tracks before the Spring Meeting of RARE FEMMES begins.
- All participants must have their own GPS or app to follow the tracks, as well as basic tools and spare parts for their particular bike. We strongly recommend bringing a spare derailleur hanger, brake pads, a first-aid kit, and snacks.
- We have options for all levels and are open to beginners, but if you have absolutely no cycling experience, you must contact us before booking.
- There will be short and long route options, ranging from 50km to 70km.
- This is not a competition but a magical three day weekend of rides for all levels and multiple activities at base camp to learn and build community.
Base camp:
The RARE FEMMES Spring Meeting will take place in Jarandilla de la Vera, a town in Cáceres strategically located between Salamanca, Toledo, and Cáceres.
We will sleep in the same spot every night, so there is no need to bring panniers. However, you will need a sleeping bag and a mat; we will have access to restrooms and showers. If you prefer, you can arrange your own tourist accommodation separately.
How to get to Jarandilla de la Vera?
Jarandilla de la Vera is 2 hours and 20 minutes from Madrid by car. From Valencia, Bilbao, or Coruña, it is between 5.5 and 6 hours. From Seville, it is 3.5 hours.
By public transport, there are two options:
-
Regional train to Navalmoral de la Mata (2 hours, no need to disassemble your bike) and from there, an Alsa bus to Jarandilla or a beautiful 40 km bike route along scenic secondary roads.
-
Direct Avanza bus from Madrid.
If you are not coming by car, you can try to find someone from your area to give you (or at least your bike) a lift in the WhatsApp group we will create for the event.

Q&A
I've never traveled by bike, is this event for me?
Yes, absolutely. The main theme of RARE FEMMES is bike travel, but it doesn’t matter if you haven’t traveled before, the important thing is that you’ll leave wanting to do it 🙂
What type of bike should I bring?
The routes will be mostly off-road on gravel tracks. We recommend a gravel or mountain bike. It’s very important that the bike is in good condition.
Can I bring an electric or a road bicycle?
We’re very sorry, but road bikes aren’t suitable for this event due to the type of routes we’ll be riding. If you need to bring an e-bike, please contact us beforehand at hola@rarefemmes.com
Can I rent a bike?
There will be some options in the surroundings of Jarandilla.
About the sleeping area
This time, we’ll be sleeping in an enclosed sports center, so we’ll need to bring our sleeping mats and sleeping bags.
And, if you prefer, you can also look for tourist accommodation in the area.
Are the activities mandatory?
No. At a music festival, you choose which artist you want to see. The same applies to the Spring Meeting of RARE FEMMES. Your ticket gives you access to the full program, and you decide what you attend.
If I can't make it, can I cancel?
We are very sorry if you can’t come, but we understand that these things happen. That’s why we’re giving you two options:
1. Cancel your ticket up to 30 days before the event starts and we’ll refund 75% of the price. We can’t offer a 100% refund because we’ve already incurred some registration fees.
2. Transfer your ticket to someone else and they can refund you the full amount. Just let us know the change at least two days before the festival starts.
